Tiens Group was founded in 1995 by Li Jinyuan in Tianjin, China. The home and heart of the company is located in Tianjin at Tiens International Health Industrial Park, which together with a newly developing international university, covers an area of 4.2 kilometres. The Tiens University - TianYuan - located in Tianjin, the largest port in northern China, officially opened on September 17, 2017. The university is funded by an investment of approximately $1.5 billion by Tiens chairman, Li Jinyuan.
It will be spread over 3.2 square kilometres and is designed to accommodate 30,000 students. The university has a total of 39 major courses in seven different areas, including business, science, medicine, engineering, arts, education and communication, some of which are being organised in collaboration with leading international academic institutions.
Li Jinyuan believes that: “Development of an enterprise relies on talents and talents rely on education.” Establishing a high level international university is deeply rooted in his dream.
Li Jinyuan adds: “I’d like to sacrifice profits for education and leave public wealth behind.”
Tiens International University will adopt advanced educational philosophy as its guide and implement a flexible educational system and full credit system. All the main courses will adopt English or bilingual lecturing.
The launch of the university is an important event in the history of non-government funded education in Tianjin.
Sun Zhiliang, Tianjin municipal education commission deputy director, says: “We look forward to an international university full of expectations and hope it will set a national benchmark among the nongovernment funded universities.”
